Mattel and SpaceX team up for new line of toys and collectibles

You will soon be able to buy a new line of SpaceX toys and collectibles from Mattel. The two companies have teamed up through a multi-year agreement to “create and market products that inspire children and collectors alike to tap into their inner space explorer.”

The first SpaceX-inspired merchandise will come from Mattel’s Matchbox brand some time in 2023. At the same time, SpaceX collectibles will debut on Mattel Creations, their direct-to-consumer  platform catered to collectors.

According to SpaceX vice president Brian Bjelde, the aerospace company wants to “inspire the next generation of space explorers and enthusiasts.”

“As space exploration advances more quickly than ever before, we are thrilled to work with SpaceX and help spark limitless play patterns for the space explorer in every kid,” added Nick Karamanos, SVP Entertainment Partnerships at Mattel.

The two companies announced their new partnership on the 53rd anniversary of the first Apollo 11 moon landing, otherwise known as International Moon Day.

This is the second licensing deal for Mattel with one of Elon Musk’s companies. Mattel has of course produced a number of Tesla-inspired toys and collectibles like the Hot Wheels diecast cars and the limited edition 1/10 scale RC Cybertruck, among others.

Through their Matchbox brand, Mattel has also created a Tesla Roadster diecast made from 99% recycled materials and certified CarbonNeutral®.
