Aer Lingus has officially launched its first aircraft equipped with Starlink Wi-Fi on a transatlantic route between Dublin and John F. Kennedy International Airport, entering a new era of in-flight connectivity.

The inaugural flight marks a milestone for the Irish carrier, making it the first airline in Ireland to offer Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellite internet to passengers. The service delivers significantly faster speeds and lower latency compared to traditional in-flight Wi-Fi systems, with advertised download speeds reaching more than 500 Mbps.

“Starlink is a constellation of more than 10,000 satellites that orbit Earth. This means Aer Lingus customers flying on @Starlink-equipped aircraft will be able to seamlessly work, browse, shop and connect from the air on multiple devices on the fastest Wi-Fi in the sky, with download speeds of up to 500+ Mbps.”

Passengers onboard the Dublin to New York flight were the first to experience the upgraded connectivity, which transforms how travelers use internet services during long-haul journeys. Activities such as video streaming, online gaming, and real-time collaboration—previously unreliable at cruising altitude—are now far more accessible.

“This level of connectivity is a real gamechanger. It gives our customers more freedom in how they spend their time on board and it helps our crews and teams work more efficiently,” said Aer Lingus CEO Lynne Embleton.

The rollout is part of a wider initiative by parent company International Airlines Group, which announced plans in late 2025 to deploy Starlink across multiple airlines in its portfolio. British Airways has already begun operating Starlink-equipped aircraft, and Aer Lingus now follows as the next carrier to bring the service into operation.

Installation across the Aer Lingus fleet will take place in phases over the next two years. The airline is prioritizing long-haul aircraft first, including its Airbus A330 and A321neo/A321XLR fleets, with those expected to be fully equipped within the next 12 months. Short-haul aircraft serving European destinations will follow, with the airline targeting full long-haul fleet coverage by early 2027.

The first aircraft to receive the upgrade underwent approximately six weeks of modification work, including the installation of Starlink’s low-profile antenna and onboard systems. As additional aircraft are retrofitted, more routes—particularly across the North Atlantic—will gain access to the enhanced service.

Aer Lingus is offering the Starlink Wi-Fi free of charge, aligning with a growing trend among airlines adopting the technology to differentiate their onboard experience.
