Waymo launches in Miami as expansion continues

Waymo has officially launched its robotaxi services in Miami. The Alphabet-owned company has nearly 10,000 Miami residents on its waitlist and on Thursday, it started accepting public rides in a 60-square-mile service area.

The service area includes the Design District, Wynwood, Brickell and Coral Gables.

Waymo confirmed it plans to expand the service area “soon” to include Miami International Airport but did not provide any details on timing.

Miami is not the only city that Waymo is targeting for expansion. In fact, eight US cities are on the list, including Seattle, Las Vegas and Washington DC. Testing has already started in some of these places with their Zeekr RT vans and Jaguar I-Pace SUVs.

The ramp-up is not small, and Waymo expects to be offering 1 million trips per week across its expanded network by the end of 2026.

With the launch of Miami, Waymo is now officially operating in six cities and across five states, with services offered in Miami, Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and, through a partnership with Uber, in Atlanta and Austin.

Even with the negative press during the latest San Francisco power outage, Waymo is expanding, and its fleet of robotaxi’s could be coming to a city near you by the end of the year.
