Volkswagen has announced that starting November 18, owners of the ID.4 and ID. Buzz electric vehicles (EVs) will gain access to Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network in North America.
The move allows Volkswagen’s EV owners to plug into more than 25,000 Tesla Superchargers across Canada and the United States, significantly expanding their charging options beyond Electrify Canada and other CCS-based networks.
To enable compatibility with Tesla’s North American Charging System (NACS), Volkswagen has developed a DC fast-charging adapter that connects Tesla’s NACS plug to the Combined Charging System (CCS) ports used on VW’s current EV lineup.

The adapter will be available through Volkswagen dealers or online via the Volkswagen Canada Virtual Parts Counter beginning November 18. For ID. Buzz customers, adapters will be distributed directly through their selling dealers, while ID.4 owners can purchase one for their vehicle. No pricing was announced, but Drive Tesla reached out to VW for information and will update this article when we get a response.
UPDATE: VW Canada confirmed with us their NACS adapter will cost C$304.
To ensure a seamless charging experience, Volkswagen drivers will be able to use the Tesla mobile app to locate compatible Supercharger stations, initiate charging sessions, and handle payments directly through the app.
As part of the rollout, select 2024 and 2025 ID.4 and ID. Buzz models may require a software update to ensure optimal charging performance when using Tesla’s network. Volkswagen says owners will receive notifications if their vehicle qualifies for the update.
By integrating access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, Volkswagen joins other major automakers embracing the NACS standard, which has quickly become the dominant charging interface in North America.
