Lucid, Uber, and autonomous driving technology company Nuro have announced a long-term partnership focused on developing and deploying a premium autonomous ride-hailing service. The partnership aims to introduce over 20,000 robotaxis—based on Lucid’s upcoming Gravity SUV—exclusively through the Uber platform, beginning in an unnamed major U.S. city next year.
As part of the partnership, Uber will invest US$300 million in Lucid and commit a larger, undisclosed amount to Nuro. The robotaxis will use Nuro’s Level 4 autonomy system, which allows for fully driverless operation within defined geographic areas. Lucid will integrate the required hardware on the assembly line, and Nuro’s software will be installed later during commissioning.
Vehicles in the program will be owned and operated either by Uber directly or through affiliated fleet operators. A prototype vehicle is already undergoing autonomous testing at Nuro’s proving grounds in Las Vegas.

Lucid interim CEO Marc Winterhoff noted that the partnership opens new opportunities for the EV maker in the mobility services space. “Our platform was developed with advanced autonomy in mind, and this collaboration allows us to build on that foundation in a way that complements our existing product roadmap,” he said.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi highlighted the potential for autonomous vehicles to enhance ride-hailing accessibility over time. “We’re working with Nuro and Lucid to develop a solution that’s specifically tailored to our platform and long-term goals,” he said.
The Lucid Gravity SUV, which comes with an EPA-estimated range of 450 miles (724 km), was chosen in part for its suitability in high-utilization environments. With fewer charging stops required, the vehicle can remain in operation longer between sessions. The robotaxi service is expected to be priced at a premium level, given the Gravity’s size and features.
No specific city has been named for the 2026 launch, and further details about the global rollout are expected in the coming months.
