Tesla’s first overseas plant is back to full operating capacity, with Giga Shanghai producing one Model Y every 30 seconds, as reported by Panda Daily.
News broke this year that Tesla was cutting down production at its massive Giga Shanghai in China, with some reports claiming production declined by at least 20 percent from March to June. Tesla did not debunk this claim, seemingly corroborated by lower Tesla registration in China.
However, it seems Tesla is now back to fully utilizing the facility. According to local media, which visited the factory last week. (via Pandaily)
With CEO Elon Musk predicting that his company would ship more cars in 2024 than last year, it is not surprising that the company will ramp up production at one of its most important plants.
Meanwhile, Giga Shanghai is reported to be highly dependent on automation. Many robotic arms labor away in the factory, achieving 95 percent automation, with 100 percent automation in the welding workshop.
The factory has two production lines with similar output stacked on top of each other, with lifts used to transport car parts vertically between them. This arrangement saves the facility a hundred meters in production line space.
The expansion work on the factory is also progressing well, with Tesla expecting to start Megapack production on the site in 2025.
