Tesla’s 2024 holiday update gets first sneak peek [2024.44]

It is getting close to that time of the year when Tesla releases a big holiday software update packed with new features and goodies. While we still about a month and a half away from its release, Tesla has deployed an early version to employees with a few of the new features we can expect to receive.

The update is 2024.44, which first appeared over the weekend on some employee cars in Europe. According to a copy of the release notes shared on social media, which have since been deleted, it includes a few noteworthy features. Don’t be disappointed however, because by the time the actual holiday update gets released next month, many more should be added.

Among the preliminary features in this update is something owners have been requesting for a long time, the ability to know whether a Supercharger has trailer-friendly stalls. According to the release notes tapping on the Supercharger pin in your navigation will show you whether a Supercharger has spaces compatible with a trailer. But to make it even easier, if you are towing and have Tow Mode active, Superchargers with trailer-friendly stalls will be displayed first in the results.

The release notes did not define trailer-friendly, so we’re not sure if this will include both pull-through and pull-in stalls, but we assume it will be both.

A new Blind Spot Warning When Parking is also included in this release. This looks like it will be exclusive to the new Model 3 which has a blind spot indicator light in door speaker, as the release notes say this light will turn on when you try to open the door when an object, like a cyclist, is detected in your blind spot. But not only does the light come on, there will also be a chime, and your door will not open unless you firmly press the door open button a second time.

Finally there is also a well-loved one feature – Cold Weather Improvements. This iteration has to do with battery preconditioning, which has been improved for faster Supercharging. Automatic windshield defrosting has also been improved during and after Supercharging.

Here are some of the more minor features included in 2024.44 update, along with the full release notes.

Blind Spot Warning When Parking

If you try to open the door when an approaching object (e.g., a cyclist coming from behind) is detected in your blind spot, the blind spot warning light will flash, an alert will sound, and your door will not open without firmly pressing the button. Wait a moment and then press the release button again to override the warning.

Trailer-Friendly Superchargers

You can now see if a Supercharger has spaces compatible with trailers. Tap the Supercharger pin on the map to check if it’s suitable for trailers. If your vehicle is in trailer mode, trailer-friendly Supercharger locations will appear at the top of the list.
