Tesla surpasses 6 million Drive Units built at Giga Nevada

Tesla has reached another major manufacturing milestone. On Wednesday the company has confirmed that Giga Nevada has now produced its six-millionth drive unit.

The update was shared by Tesla’s manufacturing team on X, congratulating the Giga Nevada workforce for hitting the landmark figure. The 6 millionth drive unit — which combine the motor, gearbox, and power electronics into a single integrated system — was front and center in the photograph.

The often forgotten about Giga Nevada has played a central role in Tesla’s North American supply chain for years, producing drive units that are shipped directly to its other North American factories for vehicle assembly. The site previously celebrated its five-millionth drivetrain milestone on June 5, 2024.

Less than two months later, Tesla revealed that cumulative drive unit production across its entire global factory network had reached 10 million.

This is the second major manufacturing milestone announced by Tesla in as many days. As we reported yesterday, the company has now built 9 million vehicles globally.
