Tesla has started construction on a new Supercharger in Hanna, Alberta. This upcoming Supercharger in central Alberta will serve as a key location for those traveling between Calgary and Saskatoon.
Last month Tesla updated their map upcoming Supercharger locations with a new site in Hanna. The new addition was welcomed by owners in the province, but in another update to their map this week, Tesla removed Hanna as an ‘in development’ location.
However, that’s not because Tesla is no longer planning on building a Supercharger in Hanna, but rather because it is already under construction (although I’m not sure why it wasn’t changed from ‘in development’ to ‘under construction.’)
A new 8-stall Supercharger has been partially built at the local Tim Hortons (606 W Industrial Rd). Based on photos of the site shared on the Tesla Owners Club of Alberta Facebook group, the underground work has already been completed and the site is just waiting on pedestals and associated power equipment.
Given the state of construction it will likely still be at least several months before the Hanna Supercharger is energized. The store manager reportedly said it will be opened this Thursday (October 17), although that is highly unlikely based on what is still to be installed, and the amount of time it typically takes for a site to have the power turned on once construction has been completed.
Hanna is currently the only Supercharger under construction in Alberta. However, Lake Louise was recently in the top 5 of Supercharger voting, and Edmonton was also removed as a future location in this week’s update, so it may still return.
