Tesla Supercharger access: six new automakers listed as “coming soon,” but Kia faces delay

Tesla has updated its website and now list six new automakers as “coming soon” for access to the company’s expansive Supercharger network.

Last week the website only listed Mercedes-Benz as soon to gain access to the Supercharger network, but on Monday that list was updated to include BMW, Genesis, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), Kia, and Lucid. While these brands are set to join the network in the near future, they don’t appear to be listed in any particular order and no specific timelines are included, but we now know that Kia’s access will take longer than anticipated.

Kia initially announced that its EVs, including the EV6, EV9, and Niro EV, would gain Supercharger access on January 15, 2025. However, James Bell, Kia’s Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations, recently confirmed that the timeline has been pushed back to spring 2025.

“A delay has occurred, and we are working with the appropriate teams to confirm new availability,” Bell stated, without providing further details on the cause of the delay to PC Mag.

Kia’s rollout plans include providing free NACS adapters to customers who purchased an EV9 or a 2024 EV6 on or after September 4, 2024. Owners of earlier models will need to purchase adapters, but no pricing has been announced. Kia has not indicated whether this delay will impact the availability of the adapters.

Tesla’s Supercharger network is widely recognized for its speed and reliability. Currently, six non-Tesla brands have access to the network, including Ford, Rivian, General Motors (GM), Polestar, Volvo, and Nissan, which gained access last month for its only compatible EV, the Ariya.
