Tesla slashes prices on CCS adapter and retrofit in North America

Tesla has significantly lowered the price of the CCS (Combined Charging System) adapter and the price of the retrofit for the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y in both Canada and the United States.

Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) offers seamless access to the company’s expansive Supercharger network. However, in certain regions of Canada and the United States where there are gaps in the Supercharger network, Tesla owners have have to rely on third-party public charging stations that use the Combined Charging System (CCS).

To bridge this gap, Tesla introduced the CCS adapter in September 2022, enabling Tesla vehicles to charge at CCS stations.

While this adapter was a game-changer for many Tesla owners, it was not compatible with all vehicles, particularly those built before 2020. These older models required a retrofit to upgrade their hardware for CCS charging. Tesla initially made this retrofit available in early 2023, but only Model S and Model X owners. Model 3 and Model Y owners had to wait longer, with the retrofit finally becoming available more than a year later.

Now the company has lowered the price of both the adapter and the retrofit. According to the most recent prices we could find, the adapter has dropped in price by 50%, while the retrofit has dropped by around 35%.

Canada:

  • CCS Combo 1 Adapter: $175 (down from $345)
  • CCS Combo 1 Adapter Model S/X Retrofit with Adapter: $415 (down from $615)
  • CCS Combo 1 Adapter Model 3/Y Retrofit with Adapter: $310 (down from $475)

United States:

  • CCS Combo 1 Adapter: $125 (down from $250)
  • CCS Combo 1 Adapter Model S/X Retrofit with Adapter: $300 (down from $450)
  • CCS Combo 1 Adapter Model 3/Y Retrofit with Adapter: $225 (down from $350)

While the price for the adapter has dropped, the amount of referral credits required to redeem for one has remained the same at 4,000 credits.

To determine whether your Tesla already supports CCS charging, simply check the “Additional Vehicle Information” section in your vehicle’s software menu. If you see “CCS charging and third-party NACS DC charging: enabled,” then your vehicle is already equipped with the necessary hardware.

If it doesn’t, you can purchase the retrofit and adapter on the Tesla Shop or in your mobile app. Unfortunately you can’t unbundle the package and have to purchase both the adapter and retrofit.
