Tesla Sets 12-Month Giga Shanghai Export Record in April

Tesla’s Giga Shanghai achieved a significant milestone in April, exporting nearly 30,000 vehicles—the factory’s highest monthly export volume in the past year. The surge in shipments was driven by global demand for the updated Model Y.

The new Model Y, which made its global debut in China earlier this year, is now being shipped to several international markets, including Australia and the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Following the New Model Y’s introduction, Tesla experienced record-breaking order volumes across the Asia-Pacific region. In South Korea, demand was so intense that Tesla’s official website briefly crashed on launch day, while long lines formed outside showrooms as customers rushed to place their orders, according to media outlet Xinhua.

Since Tesla began selling China-made vehicles in South Korea in late 2023, the company’s market presence has expanded rapidly. By the end of 2024, Tesla’s vehicle registrations in the country had surged 80% year-over-year, highlighting the brand’s growing popularity.

In addition to its export success, Tesla reported strong domestic sales in China during the first quarter of 2025. The company sold 137,200 vehicles in mainland China between January and March, up from 132,800 units in the same period of 2024.

Giga Shanghai is Tesla’s primary export hub outside the United States, and the facility played a crucial role in these results. In Q1 2025 alone, the factory delivered more than 172,000 vehicles, which produces only the Model 3 and the Model Y. Production ramped up significantly in March, with deliveries surpassing 78,800 vehicles.
