Tesla sells out of white interior for Model Y Launch Series in North America

Tesla’s new Model Y has only been available to order in North America for a week, but despite its high price tag it appears to be drawing a lot of interest from buyers as one of the included upgrades has sold out.

Tesla debuted the new Model Y Launch Series in Canada and the US last Thursday night, pricing it at C$84,990/US$59,990, quite a bit higher outgoing Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant. However, that price tag was a bit deceiving as Tesla was including all available options at no cost, and Full-Self Driving (FSD).

One of those options available at no cost was the white interior, which typically adds C$1,300/US$1,000 to your order. Despite being the less popular interior colour option, it looks like a lot of customers decided to pick it now that it was “free.”

On Thursday night the online configurator was updated to show the white interior is now sold out in both Canada and the US.

While this may be disappointing to customers who were waiting to pull the trigger on the Model Y Launch Series, it is potentially good news for those waiting for the regular, and less expensive models, to hit the market.

With the white interior sold out, this means that Tesla’s allotment of Launch Series Model Y with the white interior has already been fulfilled. Unlike the Foundation Series Cybertrucks, which were in production for nearly a full year, we should hopefully see the non-Launch Series of the Model Y sooner rather than later.

That is of course unless Tesla gets more parts to continue making the white interior, but the wording of Tesla’s message on the Design Studio of it being “sold out” makes it sound like that won’t be happening.
