Tesla has officially begun rolling out xAI’s Grok assistant into its vehicles in Europe, more than six months after the feature first debuted in the U.S. While the feature was delayed due to regulatory issues, the longer wait means Tesla owners in Europe will receive a more advanced version of Grok with deeper integration, including the ability to interact directly with the vehicle’s navigation system.
Known as Grok with Navigation Commands (Beta), the update transforms Tesla’s in-car experience by allowing drivers to interact with an advanced AI assistant capable of answering questions and directly controlling navigation.
According to the official Tesla Europe account on X, the update is initially rolling out to vehicles in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Portugal, and Spain, with plans to expand availability to additional regions over time.
The feature is part of Tesla software update 2026.2.6 and represents a major step forward in integrating conversational AI directly into the driving experience. Unlike traditional voice commands that rely on preset instructions, Grok leverages real-time information and natural language processing to handle more complex requests and conversations.
Tesla explained the core functionality in the release notes for the 2026.2.6 software update, noting: “Grok can add and edit navigation destinations. You can ask Grok to navigate to the best Thai restaurant near you, find a Supercharger within walking distance of a coffee shop, or even plan a romantic sightseeing tour.”
This capability effectively turns Grok into a personal in-car assistant that can dynamically help drivers find destinations, adjust routes, and answer general knowledge questions without requiring manual input.
While the initial rollout is limited to select European markets, Tesla has confirmed that expansion to additional regions is planned.
