Tesla removes option to pay with Bitcoin from Design Studio [Update]

Tesla made headlines earlier this year by becoming the first automaker to accept the cryptocurrency Bitcoin as payment for their vehicles.

Now it appears Tesla may have changed their minds, as the option to pay with Bitcoin has been removed from the Design Studio. The only payment options that remain are to use your credit card or Apple Pay.

UPDATE: Just moments before publishing this article, Elon Musk confirmed the removal of Bitcoin as a payment option. The CEO released a statement on Twitter explaining it was done because of concerns about the use fossil fuels in Bitcoin mining.

The initial move to accept Bitcoin was not too surprising given CEO Elon Musk’s affinity for digital currency, which led to the company purchasing $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin in February.
