Tesla has made a change to their referral program in the United States, lowering the discount new buyers and existing owners get when purchased a new Tesla.
When Tesla relaunched their referral program back in August, they gave existing owners the opportunity to earn Tesla Credits when someone purchases a new car with their referral link. In exchange for using a referral link, the buyer would get a US$1,000 discount (C$1,300 in Canada) on their purchase of a Model S, Model 3, Model X, or Model Y.
However, Tesla has now cut the buyer benefit in half for the Model 3 and Model Y, reducing it down to $500 for the company’s two most popular cars. This reduction applies both to when a new person buys a Model 3/Y, and when an existing owner purchases one using the Loyalty discount.
The discount is still US$1,000 for the Model S and Model X.
This change to the referral program in the US comes less than two weeks after a change was made to the program in Canada. Earlier this month the Model 3 was removed from the program entirely, eliminating a C$1,300 discount off the electric sedan, both for new buyers and for existing owners purchasing a new Model 3.
After today’s change to the referral program in the US, there have been no further changes to the referral program in Canada. A C$1,300 discount is still available on the Model S, Model X, and Model Y.
