Tesla recently promoted longtime employee Michael Snyder to the position of Vice President of Energy and Charging. Snyder, who joined Tesla over a decade ago, has a history of leadership within Tesla’s Energy division, particularly with the Megapack and Powerwall products.
According to Snyder’s LinkedIn profile, his journey at Tesla began in 2014 as a Staff Electrical Engineer. From there, he swiftly climbed the ranks, taking on roles with increasing responsibility in Tesla Energy. His roles included Grid Solutions Manager and Director of Engineering and Construction for Energy Projects, culminating in his position as Senior Director of the Megapack division.
During his tenure, Snyder led initiatives that were instrumental in advancing Tesla’s battery storage technology, especially the Megapack, a large-scale storage solution used by utilities and industries worldwide.
Snyder’s promotion to VP of Energy and Charging appears to be part of a broader reorganization at Tesla that combines its energy storage and charging segments. Tesla’s charging business, which includes the Supercharger network, saw a revenue increase of 29% last quarter. Tesla’s energy business saw a 52% growth in revenue in Q3 2024, generating nearly $2.4 billion, reflecting the rising demand for Tesla’s energy solutions.
By uniting these segments under one leadership structure, Tesla aims to streamline operations and capitalize on synergies between energy and charging infrastructure. The newly created role will allow Snyder to oversee the integration of Tesla’s energy products, such as Powerwall and solar technology, with its charging network, aligning with the company’s strategy of building a sustainable energy ecosystem.
Snyder’s promotion also arrives as Tesla expands its charging infrastructure. The company recently announced it had broke ground on a massive Supercharger in California featuring 168 charging stations and its own power generation capabilities. Dubbed ‘Oasis,’ this Supercharger will also have Megapacks.
Snyder’s promotion to Vice President of Energy and Charging is the latest in a series of high-level promotions at Tesla. This month alone, several executives have stepped into elevated roles. Omead Afshar is now a Vice President overseeing sales and manufacturing, with senior North American and European leaders reporting to him. Ashok Elluswamy was recently promoted from Director of Autopilot Software to Vice President of AI Software, while Milan Kovac is now Vice President of Optimus.
