After years of uncertainty and delays, the Nakusp Supercharger in the interior of British Columbia is officially open.
The long-awaited charging station, located at 1101 Highway 23 at the Esso gas station on the north side of town, features eight V4 (V3.5) Superchargers. This marks a major milestone for EV owners traveling through the scenic Arrow Lakes region between Revelstoke, Nelson, and Castlegar, where charging infrastructure has been limited until now.
The cost for charging at the new station is $0.32 per kWh for Tesla vehicles and $0.44 per kWh for non-Tesla EVs, thanks to Tesla’s ongoing support for the North American Charging Standard (NACS) and its growing openness to other electric vehicles (EVs) through the Magic Dock system.

The opening of the Nakusp Supercharger ends a saga that began over five years ago. The site was first added to Tesla’s planned Supercharger map in January 2020, making it one of the longest-running projects in the company’s Canadian charging network. Initial plans involved installing the Superchargers near the town’s sports complex, and in 2021, the Village of Nakusp and Tesla entered into early discussions.
However, that original location was eventually scrapped—reportedly due to complications in finalizing agreements or infrastructure limitations. It wasn’t until late 2022 that we reported a new site had been selected: the Esso station at the north end of town. Tesla updated its official Supercharger map to reflect this change, projecting an opening in Q1 2023.
That date came and went, and the site remained inactive through 2023 and into 2024. But the site finally went live last week.
