Tesla is getting closer to officially launching Full Self-Driving (FSD) in China, as a recent software update suggests the long-awaited feature is on the horizon.
According to photos shared by Tesla owners in China, the latest software update includes a button for “Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” in the Autopilot menu. Although the button is currently inactive and greyed out, this is the first time it has appeared in China and its presence indicates that Tesla’s FSD functionality may soon be ready for a public release.
Along with the addition of the FSD option, the updated menu also says that a new navigation maps update needs to be downloaded.
While exciting, this development is not too surprising as it aligns with Tesla’s recent FSD development roadmap, which outlined plans to bring FSD to China and Europe by the first quarter of 2025. There have been no similar reports of this button appearing on cars in Europe however.
While FSD has been available in the US and Canada for years, its rollout in China has been slower, in part due to regulatory hurdles and the complexities of launching in a region where autonomous driving technology is already highly competitive.
However, Tesla’s latest UI update is a good sign that the company is moving closer to regulatory approval in China, or at the very least, that it anticipates receiving approval in the near future.
