A new vehicle body arrived at Gigafactory Texas on Monday morning, suggesting Tesla’s extended-wheelbase Model Y L may be moving closer to North American production. The sighting comes as Tesla officially launches the larger, six-seat version of its electric SUV in Thailand, further expanding the model’s global footprint.
The new body was spotted being unboxed by drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer, who captured footage of the vehicle still wrapped in plastic sitting among materials outside the factory. Despite its protective packaging, the outline gives us a strong clue as to what finished vehicle is.

Based on its proportions, the body is likely that of the Model Y L, a six-seat version of Tesla’s best-selling SUV. The variant features a longer wheelbase and extended overall length, allowing for a more practical three-row configuration with two captain’s chairs in the second row, providing improved legroom and easier access to the third row.

At the same time, Tesla is continuing to expand the Model Y L globally. The company has now officially launched the vehicle in Thailand, adding another market to a growing list that already includes China, Australia, and New Zealand.
In announcing the launch, Tesla highlighted the vehicle’s blend of practicality and performance, saying on X, “The Model Y L Premium 6-seater is here! An SUV that combines spaciousness and versatility, perfectly suited for all your daily needs.”
The Thai-spec Model Y L comes equipped with up to 2,539 litres of cargo space and a WLTP-rated range of up to 681 kilometres (423 miles). It can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in just 5 seconds, and includes features such as adaptive suspension and an upgraded 19-speaker audio system, positioning it as a more premium alternative within the Model Y lineup.
Tesla has previously indicated that the long-wheelbase Model Y may not arrive in North America until late 2026, or potentially not at all because of the advancement of FSD. However, the appearance of a possible Model Y L body at Giga Texas, and the stalled progress of FSD since late last year, could suggest internal preparations for a North American launch may already be underway.
