Tesla to miss 2026 Vancouver Auto Show after being removed last year

Tesla will once again be absent from the 2026 Vancouver Auto Show, marking the second straight year the automaker won’t appear — but unlike last year, this time there’s no last-minute drama.

The 2026 show runs from March 25 to 29, but despite being invited back, Tesla will not have a presence on the show floor at the Vancouver Convention Centre West in Coal Harbour. In a statement provided to Drive Tesla, organizers said the company was part of early discussions but ultimately missed out on securing space.

“Tesla was invited to take part in this year’s show, and the team had several meaningful conversations throughout the planning window. As floor space is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, other manufacturers secured their placements early, and we reached capacity quickly; by the time Tesla was able to commit, all exhibit space at VIAS26 was sold out.”

The organizers added that they hope to see Tesla return next year.

“We value Tesla’s presence and innovation within the automotive industry and have encouraged their participation in the 2027 Vancouver Auto Show. We hope to see them represented at next year’s event.”

After receiving the statement, we asked organizers for more clarity on what they meant by having “several meaningful conversations” with Tesla during the planning process, but did not receive a response. Specifically, we questioned why there were any outstanding concerns that needed to be addressed before the automaker could commit to exhibit space. Tesla has participated in the Vancouver Auto Show in previous years and regularly attends major auto shows around the world, so it remains unclear what discussions were required prior to confirming its attendance for 2026.

What Happened Last Year

Tesla’s absence in 2026 comes after a much more dramatic situation last year, when Tesla was removed from the Vancouver International Auto Show just days before the event was scheduled to begin. The automaker had already set up its display, but organizers ultimately asked Tesla to dismantle its booth following protests tied to CEO Elon Musk.

At the time, show Executive Director Eric Nicholl said the decision was made over safety concerns.

“The Vancouver International Auto Show has removed Tesla as a participant in this week’s event, after the automaker was provided multiple opportunities to voluntarily withdraw. The Vancouver Auto Show’s primary concern is the safety of attendees, exhibitors, and staff. This decision will ensure all attendees can be solely focused on enjoying the many positive elements of the event,” Nicholl said.

For Tesla fans in British Columbia, that means no official display at one of Western Canada’s largest automotive showcases for a second year in a row. Whether Tesla secures space for 2027 remains to be seen, but organizers have said the door remains open.
