Tesla launches frunk ambient lighting for Model 3 and Model Y

Tesla has added a new accessory to its online store – front trunk (frunk) ambient lighting for the Model 3 and Model Y, providing better illumination inside the frunk and making it easier for owners to find and store items in low-light conditions.

Pricing and Availability

The frunk lighting kits are now available in both the Canada and U.S. with pricing set at:

The Model Y kit is compatible with vehicles produced from 2020 to 2024, while the Model 3 kit is designed for vehicles built in 2023 and later.

Features and Design

Tesla’s official description highlights that the LED lighting strip is designed for easy installation, connecting directly to the vehicle’s power supply without the need for batteries. Once installed, the lighting illuminates the entire frunk area, allowing for improved visibility during nighttime or in dark parking areas.

The design integrates seamlessly with Tesla’s interior and exterior styling, offering a factory-quality solution that avoids the inconsistencies sometimes seen with aftermarket lighting kits. Tesla also provides a detailed installation guide, ensuring that even those without technical expertise can set it up quickly.

Frunk lighting has long been a popular aftermarket modification among Tesla owners. Many have installed third-party LED strips to compensate for the minimal factory lighting.

Tesla’s pricing is, as expected, more expensive compared to many third-party options – but those don’t come with the benefit of being officially tested and supported by Tesla. However, if you would rather spend less, you can check out these third-party options on Amazon, with most prices under $50.
