Tesla increases U.S. referral discount on Model S, X, and Cybertruck

Tesla has updated its referral program in the United States, giving buyers a significant new incentive to order its higher-end vehicles. Customers who use a referral link to purchase a Model S, Model X, or Cybertruck will now receive a $1,000 discount off the price of their vehicle.

Tesla announced the new referral discount through a message to owners in the mobile app. According to that message, the referring Tesla owner still earns $250 in Tesla credits. Additionally, this $1,000 discount is limited to only the first 10 people who place an order through your referral link.

Focus on Flagship Models

The latest change appears aimed at spurring demand for Tesla’s premium lineup. While the Model 3 and Model Y account for the majority of Tesla’s global deliveries, the Model S, Model X, and the Cybertruck represent a smaller share, with sales of all three vehicles declining in recent months.

In the most recent quarter, Q2 2025, “other model” sales, which includes Model S/X and Cybertruck, accounted for just 10,394 deliveries, compared to 21,551 in the same quarter the year prior.

Likely not helping matters, Tesla recently increased the price of these three vehicles by as much as $15,000 in the U.S. However, with the higher price buyers are getting more from the included Luxe Package, which adds Full Self-Driving, lifetime Supercharging and Premium Connectivity, and four years of service.

Canada’s Rewards Remain The Same

For now, the expanded referral benefit is exclusive to the U.S. Tesla’s Canadian referral program remains unchanged, with referrers still earning $250 in credits and new buyers eligible for three months of FSD.

In past years, Tesla has occasionally synchronized its incentive programs across borders, but the company often tests changes in the U.S. first before deciding whether to expand them internationally. However, this larger discount is unlikely to make its way north of the border as all three vehicles currently have inflated prices due to tariffs.
