Tesla has rolled out a new software update aimed at significantly reducing Sentry Mode’s energy consumption. This feature was first announced as coming earlier this year and expected in Q2, but it has only been released now, and apparently only for the Cybertruck.
Back in February of this year Drew Baglino, the now former SVP Powertrain and Energy Engineering, revealed in a post on X that the company was working on a software update that would reduce Sentry Mode’s power drain by up to 40%. According to independent tests, tunning Sentry Mode can consume up to 10-15% of the car’s battery per day.
Baglino said the update was set for a Q2 release, but as we near the end of the year, the feature was still missing.
However, it looks like the 2024.38.4 software update finally brings this energy-saving feature to at least the Cybertruck. According to the release notes for the 2024.38.4 update shared by tesla-info.com, one included feature is “Sentry Mode Improvements.
“This release includes improvements to reduce energy consumption while Sentry Mode is enabled. To enable Sentry Mode, go to Controls > Safety > Sentry Mode.”
However, we personally have already received 2024.38.4 on our Model Y, and this item was not included in our release notes. According to stats from tesla-info, this feature has so far only been seen on the Cybertruck, and only in Mexico.
Presumably these Sentry Mode improvements will roll out to the rest of the fleet in the coming weeks.
One other new feature included in the 2024.38.4 software update include Track Mode Improvements.
UPDATE: 2024.38.4 does have a new feature for cars with Track Mode – Powertrain Endurance.

“You can now adjust Powertrain Endurance in Track Mode to help you achieve consistent performance for longer track sessions.”
