Tesla Finally Begins Construction of V4 Supercharger in Gatineau [Quebec]

Tesla has officially started construction on a new V4 Supercharger in Gatineau, Quebec, marking the company’s first Supercharger in the city and the latest addition to its growing network in the province.

The new station is located at 425 Boulevard la Vérendrye Ouest, where construction is already well underway with eight V4 Supercharger posts already installed, according to photos shared on the TMC forums. Once completed, the site will significantly improve charging coverage in the Outaouais region, connecting local drivers and travelers from Ottawa to Montreal and beyond.

Gatineau first appeared on Tesla’s Supercharger map back in October 2021, but the Supercharger’s start of construction was repeatedly delayed. At that time, Tesla had been linked to an earlier proposal at the IGA Extra Famille Plante located at 1248 Boulevard la Vérendrye Est, where municipal approval was granted for a total of 11 EV chargers — eight Tesla Superchargers and three ChargePoint fast chargers — as part of the RechargeÉco IGA program.

That project, however, never materialized, and Gatineau remained without a Supercharger for several years despite steady network growth across Quebec.

Now, Tesla has restarted its Gatineau plans with a completely new location and the latest V4 hardware, which offers faster peak charging speeds and longer cables for easier vehicle access. These upgrades are part of Tesla’s broader strategy to make its Supercharger network more accessible to all EV drivers, not just Tesla owners, under its NACS expansion program.

Strengthening Quebec’s Charging Network

The Gatineau site joins a wave of recent V4 Supercharger projects across Quebec, including new builds currently underway in MirabelSherbrookeDrummondvilleQuebec CityMont-TremblantRivière-du-LoupChambly,  Brossard, and Laval.

A second Supercharger is planned for Gatineau as the city was selected as a winner in the Q3 2023 Supercharging voting round.
