Tesla Expands B2B Platform with Launch of Third-Party Business Tokens

Tesla has officially launched Third-Party Business Tokens, a new feature within its “Tesla for Business” (T4B) platform. This platform allows third-party applications to integrate more seamlessly with Tesla vehicles, providing increased functionality and value for owners while opening up fresh avenues for business partnerships.

Tesla’s Third-Party Business Tokens essentially act as access keys, enabling third-party applications to interact directly with Tesla vehicles. This change not only allows Tesla to expand its ecosystem but also makes it easier for businesses to develop services tailored to Tesla owners’ needs.

Sloan Cinelli, Tesla’s Manager of Fleet & Business, announced the new tokens in a post on LinkedIn, also sharing insights on this new functionality, highlighting that T4B administrators now have the ability to authorize apps via the Tesla for Business platform.

“Third-party applications can now interact with cars they have been granted access to by a Tesla for Business admin. T4B administrators can systematically authorize an app through the Tesla for Business platform,” he explained. (via EVUniverse)

According to Cinelli, Tesla’s Fleet API is now live across all regions and accessible on all Tesla devices, presenting a new opportunity for developers to create unique value-adding services for Tesla’s client base.

George Bahadue, Head of Business Development at Tesla Charging, hinted there’s more to come for T4B, saying in a separate post on LinkedIn, “Exciting times for our low-key B2B platform, Tesla for Business. More exciting updates en route!”

Tesla’s Third-Party Business Tokens represent a key step in a broader B2B strategy. While Tesla has traditionally focused on individual customers, the introduction of T4B shows the company’s recognition of the fleet and business market potential. By making its vehicle data accessible through third-party applications, Tesla is providing businesses with the tools to develop innovative services tailored to their own needs, potentially spanning from fleet management solutions to location-based applications and beyond.
