Tesla ending free inventory Model 3/Y upgrade incentive in the U.S., keeps Supercharging perk in Canada

Tesla is winding down its “One Free Upgrade” promotion for new Model Y and Model 3 inventory vehicles in the United States. While the same incentive is not available in Canada, the lone inventory incentive remains for customers north of the border.

The incentive, which first appeared earlier this year and applies only to existing inventory, allowed buyers to receive one free upgrade, such as premium paint, wheels, or interior. Depending on which upgrade you select, this can translate into a savings of up to US$2,000.

The promotion had no set end date, but now one has been added, and it is soon. Customers must place their order by August 11, 2025, for the Model Y and August 18, 2025, for the Model 3, in order to take advantage of the offer, according to an update to Tesla’s website over the weekend.

The end of this promotion comes just days after Tesla increased Model Y lease prices in the U.S. by as much as 14%. At the same time, estimated delivery windows for both Model Y variants and certain Model 3 configurations have stretched from 1–3 weeks to 4–6 weeks for custom orders.

These changes likely reflect a spike in demand as the U.S. federal $7,500 EV tax credit is set to expire for Tesla buyers at the end of September. With just weeks left to secure the incentive, customers are placing their orders now to lock in savings before the deadline.

Incentives in Canada

In Canada, Tesla is still offering an incentive, but only on remaining Model 3 inventory — one year of free Supercharging for customers who choose financing or pay in cash. However, there is currently no Model Y inventory available in the country, and as a result, no corresponding incentives. Canadians are still awaiting new Model Y shipments from Giga Berlin, which are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
