Tesla enables 325kW Supercharging at all V4 Superchargers in North America

Tesla has officially enabled 325kW Supercharging at all V4 Supercharger locations across North America. While the higher charging speeds are now available, the Tesla Cybertruck remains the only vehicle in the company’s lineup able to charge at those speeds, although some non-Tesla EVs can also take advantage of it.

Tesla’s Supercharger network has evolved through multiple generations, with V4 representing the latest in the company’s charging infrastructure. The previous generation V3 stations are capable of charging at speeds up to 250kW. When Tesla rolled out their V4 stations, they were still being built with the same supporting infrastructure as the V3 stations, meaning they were also capped at 250kW.

This was despite the Supercharging posts themselves being rated for much higher, and Tesla hinting that higher charging speeds would be available in the future.

These stations, with V4 Supercharger posts and V3 cabinets, are referred to internally as “V3+.” Last month Tesla enabled faster 325kW charging at select V3+ stations in the US, and after a little over a month of testing, the company has now expanded this capability to all V3+ stations in Canada and the US.

As we noted earlier, only the Cybertruck, with its 800V architecture, can currently take advantage of this increased speed. However, several non-Tesla EVs can also charge at up to 325kW, like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6, both of which also feature 800V architecture.

This is only the beginning of faster charging Supercharger charging speeds. Tesla has already announced that they will introduce V4 cabinets this year, which will increase peak charging rates to 500kW. The first full-fledged V4 station is expected to open soon, but we don’t know where yet, with Tesla only saying last year it was in the permitting stage.
