Tesla has made another update to its referral program in the US, expanding the list of vehicles eligible for the program to include the Cybertruck. Since deliveries of the Cybertruck haven’t even started yet in Canada, the same change did not happen north of the border.
According to an update to the mobile app, buyers of the Cybertruck can now get $1,000 off their purchase price by using a referral link. This brings the Cybertruck down to its cheapest price point ever – US$78,990 for the Dual Motor and US$98,990 for the Cyberbeast.
The referral discount applies both for new buyers, as well as existing owners buying a Cybertruck, which Tesla refers to as a loyalty discount.
This addition of the Cybertruck to the referral program comes 11 months after the electric truck first entered production. The majority of those 11 months saw production limited exclusively to the Foundation Series trims, which came with a US$20,000 premium over regular pricing, but also about US$18,000 worth of accessories and upgrades.
Since production was limited to this trim, and with the Cybertruck being new to Tesla’s lineup, the electric truck was not part of the referral program. Now that Tesla has ended sales of the Foundation Series, and anyone can purchase a regular Cybertruck, the company has decided to give buyers a potential US$1,000 discount.
As for a referral discount for the Cybertruck in Canada, don’t expect that for many months until Tesla brings the regular versions north of the border, which isn’t expected until around Q2 2025.
This is the third change to the referral program Tesla has made in the last month, and the second change in the US in as many weeks. The other was to reduce the referral benefit of the Model 3 and Model Y, lowering it from US$1,000 down to US$500.
In Canada, Tesla also removed the Model 3 from the referral program entirely, eliminating a C$1,300 discount on the electric sedan.
