Tesla confirms robotaxi event to take place in LA, opens shareholder ticket lottery

With exactly one month to go, Tesla is allowing shareholders to enter a lottery to win tickets to see the robotaxi unveiling event in person. At the same time, the company has confirmed the event will take place in Los Angeles.

Tesla announced the shareholder lottery through a post on the social media platform on X. As with previous lotteries, shareholders simply have to prove they owned TSLA shares as of July 31, 2024 in order to enter. For most this will be done through Tesla’s shareholder platform, which after submitting the required information can automatically verify your status as a shareholder.

However, Tesla’s platform does not work well with all financial brokerages, particularly RBC Direct Investing, which means you may have to manually submit your July 2024 statement to confirm your status.

Once that is all set up and verified, you have until September 17 to submit your entry, where each share you own will be equal to one entry in the draw. According to new head of investor Relations Travis Axelrod, winners will begin being notified the week of September 23, and more details will be shared once tickets are issued.

One of those details will likely be the exact location, although Tesla did confirm today it will be taking place in Los Angeles. This all but confirms a previous report that said Tesla was going to hold it at Warner Bros. Studio in Hollywood.

Tesla was originally planning to unveil the robotaxi on September 8, but it was later delayed to October 10 at the request of CEO Elon Musk, who asked the team behind the project to make an important design change to the front of the vehicle.
