Tesla China exports its 1 millionth car

Tesla China has announced the export of its 1 millionth car from China. This is a huge milestone for the facility, which began operating in 2019.

Tesla announced the milestone with a post on X, sharing an image from the Port of Shanghai with some of the cars arranged in the shape of 1M, for 1 million.

EVs originating from Giga Shanghai have been exported to multiple continents, including Europe, Asia-Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand.

The achievement was also shared on China’s social network Weibo by Grace Tao, Tesla’s VP of external affairs, who wrote, “Thanks to the love and support of every new and old owner, we continue to serve global consumers with quality products and accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy!”

Giga Shanghai began production in 2019, but the first export was in April 2021, making the factory an international hub. The automaker has shipped nearly 200,000 cars this year alone.

While this decreased 15.05 percent compared to the same period last year, it was enough to reach the 1 million mark.

Tesla China sold 388,000 EVs locally between January and August, a 0.57 percent decline year-on-year. It is closing the third quarter with strong sales momentum, but the winning streak might not be ending soon, as the company has extended its 5-year 0% interest loan offer in China.
