Tesla brings back free FSD transfers, yet again

If you missed out on the last time Tesla offered free Full Self-Driving (FSD) transfers, you’re in luck as the promotion has returned for another quarter. This is the fifth time the offer has been made available since it was first offered, when Elon Musk said it would be a “one-time amnesty.”

Tesla officially announced the new FSD transfer program in a message sent out through the mobile app, saying the offer is available when existing owners with FSD purchase a new Model S, Model 3, Model X, or Model Y, and take delivery by December 31, 2024.

The FSD transfer is again available in both Canada and the United States.

Tesla initially introduced FSD transfers in mid-2023 at the Q2 2023 earnings call, where Elon Musk was asked about allowing free FSD transfers when purchasing a new car. After years of getting the same question, he finally agreed to allow it, describing it as a “one-time amnesty” and only making it available until the end of the quarter.

As it turns out, Tesla has reintroduced FSD transfers four more times since then, and now for a fifth time. This is depiste Musk again saying as recently as the 2024 Shareholder meeting it was returning for “one last quarter.” (that offer was also extended for an extra month)

At this point, it only makes sense for Tesla to make this a permanent option for owners with FSD who want to upgrade to a new car.
