Tesla has officially started deliveries of the Cybertruck in a country outside of the United States for the first time. That country is unfortunately not Canada, but Mexico, although we do have a clearer timeline of when to expect the first deliveries north of the border.
A little over a month ago Tesla started inviting customers in Canada and Mexico to configure their Foundation Series Cybertrucks, nine months after the electric truck debuted in the United States. When those invitations went out, Tesla’s website indicated the first deliveries were expected to begin in September/October in Mexico, and October/November in Canada.
Right on schedule, the first Cybertucks destined for customers arrived in Mexico last week and were delivered on Sunday.

Many were surprised to see the Cybertruck making an appearance in Mexico before Canada, but as we noted above, it does meet with Tesla’s initially communicated timelines.
However, Cybertruck Program Manager Siddhant Awasthi has provided a clearer timeline for when deliveries will start in Canada. In response to a question from Canadian Cybertruck customer @darewecan on X, Awasthi said it is “likely” that deliveries will kick off in late October, or a little over a month away.
Late October likely..

Since the Cybertruck launched in Canada, there have been a number of important changes when it comes to how much it costs in Canada. While Tesla’s website initially showed the Cybertruck would be subject to the federal luxury tax, it has since been updated to have this line item removed from the online configurator due to its gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). According to Canadian regulations, the luxury tax applies to vehicles with a GVWR of 3,856 kg (8,501 lbs) or less. The Cybertruck, even in its lighter configurations, exceeds this weight threshold.
For customers in BC, the Cybertruck is also now eligible for a $10,000 rebate, however this rebate is only open to business customers. Tesla is also working to have the Cybertruck become eligible for a federal rebate of up to $10,000.
