Tesla Adds “If This, Then That” Automations in China [2025.45.32.1]

Tesla has released its latest software update in China, version 2025.45.32.1, with a focus on making your car smarter and more personalized. While the update includes a long list of infotainment and regional enhancements, two features stand out: a new Automation app and a much smarter Dashcam recording system that adapts to storage capacity.

Automation Application

Probably the most notable addition in update 2025.45 is Tesla’s new Automation application, which introduces rule-based “if this then that” (IFTTT) logic to vehicle behaviour for the first time.

Using simple “if/execute” conditions, drivers can now create custom automations that trigger when specific events occur and predefined conditions are met. These automations are designed to reduce friction during daily use by turning repetitive actions into background processes.

Tesla’s release notes provide one example: when the driver’s door opens, and the driver is seated, the vehicle can automatically announce a reminder such as “Please don’t forget your belongings.” This example hints at far more advanced possibilities, including location-based reminders, time-of-day behaviors, and contextual alerts tied to driver presence or vehicle state.

Although Tesla hasn’t yet disclosed the full range of triggers and actions available, this appears to lay the groundwork for deeper functionality over time, potentially touching climate controls, charging routines, safety prompts, and driver profiles.

Dashcam Recording Now Adjusts to USB Storage Size

Tesla has also delivered a meaningful upgrade to its Dashcam and Sentry Mode system, addressing a long-standing limitation for owners who use larger USB drives.

With update 2025.45, dashcam footage retention now scales dynamically with storage capacity. Vehicles equipped with a 128GB USB drive will retain up to three hours of rolling footage, while drives 1TB and larger can store up to 24 hours before overwriting older clips.

This change ensures that significantly more footage is preserved for later review, which is particularly valuable for insurance claims, parking incidents, or extended road trips. It also removes uncertainty around how much video Tesla is actually saving, providing an additional incentive to invest in higher-capacity storage.

Given past experience, we fully expect these two features to eventually reach North America, it is just a matter of when.

More Quality-of-Life Improvements

Beyond Automations and Dashcam improvements, update 2025.45 includes a variety of additional refinements focused on infotainment, navigation, and usability, some of which are exclusive to the Chinese market, such as enhanced lyric visualizations, improved music accompaniment and karaoke-style modes, and the addition of a new third-party music app, Kugou Music.

Navigation also benefits from improved Supercharger map clustering, grouping nearby charging stations into cleaner, easier-to-read clusters—particularly useful in dense urban areas. Voice interaction continues to evolve as well, with enhancements to Tesla’s “Hey Tesla” wake-word system that make hands-free controls more accessible and natural.

Dashcam Dynamic Recording Duration

The dashcam now dynamically adjusts the storage time of the most recent videos based on the capacity of the USB drive: 3 hours for a 128GB drive and up to 24 hours for 1TB and above. This ensures that as much video as possible is retained for viewing before it is overwritten.

“Automation” Applications

Create a personalized driving experience with the all-new “Automation” app. Utilize “if/execute” logic to create custom flows to suit different daily routines and habits. Create your own personalized automation. You can now create your own automated tasks for your vehicle to perform when a specific event occurs and certain conditions are met.

You can define an automated task like “When the driver’s door is opened (event occurs), if the driver is in the driver’s seat (full seat), announce a voice reminder ‘Please don’t forget your belongings’ (execute automated task).”

Hey Tesla (Voice Wake-Up)

You can now use voice commands to wake up your device; try “Hey, Tesla Controls > Voice Panel to turn on voice wake-up”.

KuGou Music

A new app, “KuGou Music,” has been added. It offers daily recommendations, AI playlists, VIP radio charts, in-car channels, and user-created playlists—a vast library of music to accompany your journeys. Requires high-performance entertainment services or a Wi-Fi connection.
