SureCharge to Install 96 Wallbox 180 kW Charging Stalls Across Alberta and B.C.

Western Canada is set to see a major expansion in public electric vehicle (EV) charging as SureCharge Corp., a new player in Canada’s charging industry, confirmed plans to deploy 24 DC fast-charging stations across Alberta and British Columbia.

The project will include a total of 96 stalls powered by Wallbox’s Supernova 180 kW chargers, significantly improving access for drivers along high-traffic corridors and underserved regions.

First Sites Coming Late 2025

SureCharge expects its first charging hubs to go live before the end of 2025, with initial locations in Red Deer, Lacombe, and the Enoch Cree Nation. From there, the rollout will accelerate through 2026 and into 2027, ultimately bringing 48 dual-head Wallbox Supernova units online. Each site will offer an average of four stalls.

Future sites are planned for Whitecourt, Grande Prairie, Jasper, Fort St. John, Fernie, Edson, Grand Cache, Hinton, Rocky Mountain House, Valleyview, and Diamond Valley. SureCharge also suggested the network could eventually expand into other provinces.

Backed by Federal and Provincial Funding

The project has received significant government support to help close charging gaps across Western Canada. Natural Resources Canada is contributing over $4.7 million through its Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, while the Government of British Columbia has added $400,000 in partnership funding.

“This initiative is supported by over $4.7 million in funding from the Government of Canada through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program,” the company said in a statement. “In addition, the Government of British Columbia contributed $400,000 through a partnership with Natural Resources Canada to support the expansion.”

Canadian officials emphasized the importance of this project for both current EV drivers and those considering making the switch. “These chargers give peace of mind to current EV drivers, and help address charging anxiety for those considering an EV purchase in the near future,” said Tim Hodgson, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
