As Indonesia continues to be battered by monsoon rains and deadly floods across North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh, Starlink is stepping up to help.
The damage is extreme in North and West Sumatra, with mobile towers damaged or destroyed, power lines down and blocked access routes across the islands. To assist with emergency response and coordinate on-the-ground efforts, Starlink is working with local officials to ensure there is connectivity in place.
Starlink is deploying its network and offering its services free to local governments for their efforts. This includes providing terminals and internet access to:
- Local government coordination centres
- Temporary evacuation shelters on the islands
- Search and Rescue teams operating in remote terrain
- Field hospitals and emergency clinics.
In addition, Starlink announced that it is offering free internet through December 2025 to those affected by the Indonesian floods and is coordinating the effort with the Indonesian government.
Those within the affected area will receive automatic free service credits to their Starlink account.
- Active accounts will have the free credits applied automatically.
- Suspended or paused accounts can restore their account without a charge and receive the credits.
- New customers will need to purchase a device, activate it, and submit a support ticket labelled “Indonesia Flood Support” to receive their free credits.
