SpaceX’s Starlink Surpasses 4 Million Subscribers, Adding 1 Million Users in Just Four Months

SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service has achieved a significant milestone, crossing the 4 million subscriber mark, according to an official announcement from the company. This remarkable growth comes just four months after Starlink surpassed 3 million users in May 2024, illustrating the rapidly increasing global demand for the service.

Starlink’s growth trajectory has been nothing short of impressive. The satellite internet service began as a beta program in October 2020, and by December 2022, it had already reached 1 million active subscribers. Since then, it has doubled its user base in less than two years, with 2 million users in September 2023, followed by 3 million in May 2024.

Now, the service has grown to serve over 4 million subscribers worldwide, according to a post from SpaceX on X.

While the subscriber count has swelled among households in more than 100 countries around the world, Starlink has also made significant inroads into enterprise markets. Partnerships with major airlines like United have been key in this expansion, as well as deals to offer internet service on cruise lines, ensuring Starlink’s presence in industries where reliable, high-speed internet has historically been scarce.

The continuous expansion of Starlink’s satellite constellation, which now includes over 7,000 satellites, will further enhance service coverage and quality. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) this week also approved opening 1,300 megahertz of radio spectrum in the 17.3 to 17.8 GHz bands to non-geostationary satellites, a move that should improve download speeds for many of those 4 million subscribers.
