SpaceX is preparing for another wave of growth in Central Texas, with fresh investments in its Bastrop facilities, backed by both private funding and state support totaling more than $25 million.
$8 Million Expansion Kicks Off This Month
According to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, SpaceX will begin work later this month on an $8 million project at its Bastrop site. The plan calls for an 80,000-square-foot addition to existing office space, with construction scheduled to start September 24 and wrap up by early January 2026. (via MySA)
This is not the first expansion in Bastrop for SpaceX. Last year, the company committed a similar $8 million to enlarge one of its buildings, allowing Starlink production to scale up in response to soaring global demand.
Funding from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund
In addition to its privately financed expansion, SpaceX has also been awarded a $17.3 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund. Announced earlier this year by Governor Greg Abbott, the funding will support the growth of SpaceX’s semiconductor research and advanced packaging facility in Bastrop.
State officials project the investment will lead to more than 400 new jobs and over $280 million in capital commitments. Over the next three years, the facility is slated to grow by roughly 1 million square feet, cementing its role in producing Starlink components, including circuit boards and advanced panel-level packaging.
When completed, Abbott noted, it will be one of the largest facilities of its kind in North America.
