Rivian Turns R1S and R1T Into “Spooky Swamps” With Halloween Software Update

Rivian has rolled out its latest software update, version 2025.38, and in continuing with its tradition, the update transforms the R1S and R1T into spooky, swamp-inspired rides just in time for Halloween.

From October 21 through November 1, owners of both Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles can activate the new “Spooky Swamp” car costume to experience a mix of haunting animations, eerie lighting, and themed sound effects designed to entertain and surprise.

For Gen 2 vehicles, the update adds four distinct exterior light and sound effects—Swamp Gas, Player Piano, Bayou Blast, and Scary Spirit. Each brings its own atmosphere, from alligator roars and bubbly swamp noises to ghostly melodies and glowing red eyes that slide across the LED light bar. Owners can trigger these effects manually or enable the “Motion” setting, which automatically plays them when someone walks by.

Gen 1 owners aren’t left out. Their vehicles get several new interior enhancements, including additional music tracks, six spooky sound effects, and a swamp-themed driving mode that replaces the usual background visuals with an interactive bayou scene.

Gen 2 models also add flickering overhead lighting for extra effect, creating an immersive experience that extends across all three interior screens.

The update isn’t just for Halloween, as Rivian has included several useful system upgrades in version 2025.38. The most notable is Plug & Charge functionality at Electrify America and IONNA DC fast-charging stations, which allows owners to start charging automatically without using an app or card. The update also improves live charger availability and reliability data displayed in the vehicle’s navigation system.

Other enhancements include updates to the climate control system, enhanced ventilation options, and improved performance for charging and navigation features.
