Canadian customers hoping to get behind the wheel of the Rivian R2 will need to wait a little longer, as the electric automaker has pushed back its official timeline for deliveries in Canada
The updated timeline comes directly from Rivian’s R2 website for Canadians, which now indicates the R2 is heading north of the border in 2027. Previously, the website indicated the first deliveries would begin in 2026, with the fine print giving an even shorter timeframe, the first half of 2026.
Along with the updated timeline, Rivian has also removed the previously listed estimated starting price of C$66,500. (via @darewecan)

The updated timeline comes as Rivian navigates a more complex trade environment between Canada and the United States since the R2 was first announced in March 2024, most notably with the introduction of tariffs. These tariffs are designed to protect domestic manufacturing but can also increase costs for vehicles imported across the border, creating uncertainty for automakers planning international rollouts.
Since the R2 will initially be manufactured in the United States, exporting the vehicle into Canada could subject it to additional duties depending on how trade rules evolve and how governments classify vehicle content and origin, creating added complexity for Rivian, which must balance pricing competitiveness with profitability.
In the meantime, Rivian is preparing to launch the R2 in the United States, where full specifications, pricing, and the configurator are set to be revealed on March 12. That reveal will provide the clearest indication yet of how Rivian intends to position the vehicle and will likely influence its eventual pricing and availability in Canada.
