Rivian now includes NACS adapter as standard accessory

Rivian is now including a North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter with every new R1T and R1S purchase made in Canada and the United States.

Last year Rivian was among one of the first automakers to agree to adopt Tesla’s NACS plug, which also gave Rivian owners access to Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network. Since Rivian vehicles have always come standard with a CCS1 charging port, existing owners require a separate adapter to plug in at a Supercharger, while the company works to integrate an NACS port into their future EVs.

While other automakers are making their EV owners pay for a NACS adapter, like GM which is charging C$310/US$225, Rivian has been providing them for free. Now the company has taken it a step further, also choosing to include a free NACS adapter with all new vehicle purchases.

The free NACS DC Adapter can be seen on the purchase summary page during checkout in both Canada and the US for any configuration of the R1T or R1S. (h/t: @RivianTrackr)

For Rivian, they will be including a free NACS adapter until sometime in 2025, when the company plans to start building the R1T and R1S with a native NACS charge port.

It looks like Rivian won’t be the first to do so however. Hyundai has already shown off the 2025 IONIQ 5 with a native NACS charge port. Interestingly, Hyundai says it will also provide a CCS adapter to those future IONIQ 5 owners in case they need it.
