Porsche ‘Overwhelmed’ By Surge in Orders for Electric Macan

Porsche’s bold move to make the 2024 Macan exclusively electric is yielding dividends, as the company’s CEO reports they are overwhelmed with orders.

Oliver Blume, CEO of the Porsche brand and Volkswagen Group, stated how demand for the all-electric 2024 Macan has caught his company by surprise. The electric has garnered more than 10,000 orders, even though the numbers for some of its biggest markets like China, Taiwan, and Japan have not been collated.

Blume added he was confident that the Macan would be a hit in the EV market. He was excited that “the people ordering this haven’t touched this car, haven’t driven this car.” He added, “This also shows the substance of this product, that we can follow up the success of the Taycan.”

The Macan is Porsche’s second biggest seller worldwide as an ICE model, bested only by the Cayenne. While Porsche will continue to sell the fossil fuel-powered version in the US, it can no longer do so in Europe, thanks to stricter cybersecurity regulations.

The electric Macan is about $20,000 more expensive than the ICE version. However, the 2024 model is more powerful and runs on significantly updated software. The price increase also aligns with Porsche’s strategy of selling more expensive cars with higher profit margins.

The 2024 Porsche Macan offers a driving range of more than 500 km and generates up to 630 hp.

The 2025 Porsche Taycan also promises faster charging, extended range, and more power.
