The seventh largest tire maker in the world, Hankook Tire & Technology Co., has announced it has been supplying a brand new tire design for the Porsche Taycan since last year.
The Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 ev (that’s a bit of a mouthful) are specifically designed with the needs of electric vehicles (EVs) in mind.
When it comes to EVs, tires are particularly important as any increase in drag reduces efficiency. According to Hankook, the tread pattern on these tires has improved rolling resistance by 13% overall.
Another key consideration when selecting tires for an EV is road noise because of the lack of noise from a combustion engine. Hankook’s engineers claim these new tires reduce the noise in the interior by three decibels.
The tires also have a reinforced bead with bead-packing technology and high lateral stiffness for better handling at high speeds.
The Porsche Taycan comes with these new tires in the size 225/55R19 XL 103Y tires on the front, and 275/45R19 XL 108Y on the rear axle and “NF0” on the sidewall.
It is not known if all models of the Porsche Taycan come equipped with these tires, or when Hankook began supplying them to Porsche. When Drive Tesla got an up-close look at one of the first Porsche Taycan Turbo’s in Canada, it was equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
