GM takes top spot in US auto sales, second in EV sales in 2024

General Motors is on top of the North American auto market for 2024, bolstered by a second place in the electric vehicle segment.

GM ended 2024 as the top-selling auto brand in North America, beating out Toyota, Ford, and Tesla. Across its brands, GM now has a 16.5% market share.

In terms of electric vehicles, GM took the second spot, directly behind Tesla and ahead of Ford, Hyundai, and others.

On the EV side, the SUVs led GM Sales, with the Chevrolet Equinox EV, Cadillac Lyriq, and Chevrolet Blazer EV all selling over 20,000 units. General Motors sold 114,000 EV sales in 2024, a 50% increase in year-over-year sales. With additional offerings coming in 2025, GM is set up for a potentially massive year.

Vehicle 2024 Sales
Chevrolet Equinox EV 28,874
Cadillac Lyriq 28,402
Chevrolet Blazer EV 23,115
GMC Hummer EV 13,993
Chevrolet Bolt EUV/EV 8,627
Chevrolet Silverado EV 7.428
GMC Sierra EV 1,788
BrightDrop Zevo 1,529
Cadillac Escalade IQ 670

On the internal combustion side, GM sales were driven primarily by pickups and SUVs, with the Chevy Silverado, Chevy Equinox, and Chevy Trax leading the way.

If GM can keep threading the needle between launching new and exciting EV offerings on its Ultium platform while maintaining its sales base, the next few years could be exciting for the multi-brand auto giant as the calendar rolls over to 2025.
