First Rivian Waypoint Chargers spotted in Moab, Utah

With the first deliveries of the R1T still expected to take place this month, the first Rivian Waypoint chargers have been spotted in Moab, Utah.

The Waypoint chargers were found by RivianForums member JeremyP at Under Canvas, a high-end desert camping, or glamping resort just north of Moab. The desert locale is where Rivian has been conducting extensive testing of their prototype electric vehicles (EVs).

According to Jeremy, the chargers were powered by a solar array. Signage at the chargers indicate they are reserved for customers at Under Canvas.

Rivian has big plans for their charging network that will include these Level 2 Waypoint chargers, as well as DC fast chargers.

The automaker plans to install over 10,000 of these Level 2 Waypoint chargers across the U.S. and Canada by 2023.

A further 3,500 will be part of the Rivian Adventure Network. These locations will be DC fast chargers providing charging rates of over 200kW, upgradeable to 300kW in the future.

The DC fast chargers will only be available to Rivian owners.
