FBI Investigates Suspected Bombing at Tesla Supercharger in Lacey, Washington

A Tesla Supercharger station in Lacey, Washington, was severely damaged early Tuesday morning in what authorities are investigating as a targeted bombing. The incident, which occurred at approximately 1:34 a.m. outside a Target store, caused extensive damage to the charging infrastructure, but fortunately did not result in any injuries.

Lacey Police confirmed they responded to scene after receiving several calls about a loud explosion in the area. When officers arrived, they found a destroyed power cabinet and significant damage to associated electrical switchgear that services the 12-stall Supercharger station. Local detectives are now working closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which has taken a leading role in the investigation.

“We are currently working with our detective unit in cooperation with our federal partners to investigate and expect to be out here for some time today,” said Detective Sergeant Jeremy Knight of the Lacey Police Department. (via MyNorthWest)

Tesla also confirmed the incident via a statement on X, saying, “We’re on-site with Lacey Police and FBI, and reviewing camera footage. Also coordinating with Puget Sound Energy to get the Superchargers back online asap. Don’t mess with critical infrastructure.”

While authorities have not yet confirmed a motive, law enforcement is treating the incident as a potential act of domestic terrorism. This development follows months of increasing hostility and demonstrations against Tesla and CEO Elon Musk, which have sparked protests, boycotts, and, increasingly, acts of vandalism at Tesla facilities across the globe.

In recent weeks, similar attacks have targeted Tesla Service Centers, vehicles, and charging infrastructure, with incidents ranging from graffiti and tire slashing to arson. This latest bombing represents a dramatic escalation in what appears to be a campaign of politically motivated sabotage.

The U.S. federal government has taken these incidents seriously. Earlier this year, President Trump and Attorney General appointees designated vandalism targeting Tesla as a form of domestic terrorism, thereby authorizing FBI jurisdiction. The Bureau has since formed a dedicated task force to track and investigate these attacks.
