Canada funds 810 new EV chargers for British Columbia

British Columbia is the leading province when it comes to electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Canada, with 13% of new light-duty vehicle sales being zero-emission. Many of those EV drivers will soon have access to hundreds of new EV charging stations.

The Government of Canada announced this morning it will be providing $3.54 million to the provincial government’s Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation to support the installation up to 810 EV chargers across the province.

The investment is funded through the Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP).

“With electric vehicles representing 13 percent of all new light-duty vehicles sold in B.C., our province has the strongest adoption rate of electric vehicles in Canada. We’re positioning ourselves to become leaders in the EV industry. We’re working with our federal partners to increase rebates for home, workplace and fleet charging and making it easier and more affordable for people to make the switch to electric vehicles, said Bruce Ralston, Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation.

The exact locations of the chargers were not announced, but they will be installed at multi-unit residential buildings, workplaces or facilities for servicing light-duty vehicle fleets and be available by October 2023.
