Porsche has officially unveiled their second electric vehicle (EV), the 2024 Macan EV. Unveiled in Singapore on Thursday, Porsche plans to introduce the electric SUV to North America in late 2024, featuring two initial all-wheel-drive models: the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo.
The new Macan EV boasts some impressive specifications. The Macan 4 variant comes with 402 horsepower (hp) and 479 lb-ft of torque, getting it from 0 to 60mph in 4.9 seconds. The Turbo variant delivers 630hp, enabling it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, and comes with a top speed of 162 mph (261 km/h). The EPA range hasn’t been announced, but both variants have a 100kWh battery, which should translate into a range above 310 miles (500km). The battery supports fast charging, capable of going from a 10% state of charge to 80% in 21 minutes with a 270 kW charger, and can also be charged at 11 kW using a regular AC system.
In terms of design, the electric Macan represents a significant evolution from its internal combustion engine predecessor. It features sleek exterior styling, influenced by the Porsche Taycan, particularly noticeable in its recessed rectangular headlamps and full-width taillamp. The electric variant is slightly larger than its gas-powered sibling – 4.1 inches (104 mm) longer, with a wheelbase extended by 3.4 inches (86 mm) to 113.9 inches (2,893 mm), enhancing its aerodynamic efficiency with a drag coefficient of 0.25.
The interior of the Macan echoes the design language of the facelifted Cayenne, offering up to three digital displays, including a 12.6-inch (32-cm) curved instrument and a 10.9-inch (28-cm) infotainment touchscreen. The infotainment system, based on Android Auto, includes the “Hey Porsche” voice assistant and access to third-party apps through the Porsche App Centre.
The Macan EV will be competitively priced in the luxury electric SUV segment. In Canada the Macan 4 starts at $99,300, while in the US it will start at $80,450. Opting for the Macan Turbo the price increases to $125,300 in Canada and $106,950 in the US.
The first Macan EVs are expected to arrive at dealers in Canada in the second half of 2024.
