Tesla Offers Limited-Time Model Y Discount in China, Extends 0% Financing

Tesla has introduced a limited-time discount on its Model Y in China on select trims. At the same time, the automaker has also extended its popular 0% interest financing offer that was originally set to expire at the end of November.

According to an announcement via Tesla’s official Weibo account, the Model Y has a new discount of ¥10,000 (C$1,925/US$1,380). The offer applies to the Rear Wheel-Drive (RWD) and Long Range All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) variants of the electric SUV. The Performance trim is not included.

The terms of the deal says customers have until December 31, 2024, to place their orders and take delivery in order to take advantage of the offer.

Additionally, Tesla has extended its 5 year, 0% interest financing program for all Model Y and Model 3 variants in China through to the end of the year. This offer was first introduced earlier this year in April, and has been successively extended for longer terms.

The most recent extension came last month, and was set to expire on November 30, 2024. Now customers in China will have until December 31, 2024 to take advantage.

The timing of the discount, which applies only the to the Model Y, has increased speculation about an imminent refresh for the electric SUV. Spy shots and reports suggest Tesla’s Giga Shanghai is preparing for production updates, having already started trial production in a separate area of the factory, rumored to be part of “Project Juniper.”

Official production is expected to start early in 2025, and if rumours are accurate, could hit the market as early as the first quarter of next year.
