DASH ridesharing program to launch in Tampa with fleet of Tesla Model Ys

Tampa Bay residents and visitors will soon have an eco-friendly option for getting around the city, thanks to the upcoming launch of the Downtown Area Shared Hubs (DASH) program. The Downtown Tampa Partnership announced on Monday the new ride-sharing service that will consists of a fleet of bright yellow Tesla Model Y vehicles.

Scheduled to go live in October, the DASH service will operate through a mobile app, allowing users to request a ride from one of the 20 designated hubs scattered across downtown Tampa. The service will also support carpooling, as up to four passengers can be paired for hub-to-hub trips. DASH aims to address the need for increased connectivity within Tampa’s seven neighborhoods while providing an affordable and sustainable transportation option for the community.

One of the most appealing aspects of the DASH service is its affordability, with rides expected to cost only a few dollars per trip. This low-cost option will be a game-changer for individuals seeking convenient transportation for medium-length journeys in downtown Tampa, whether for work, leisure, or educational purposes, according to DASH. The program aims to make Tampa’s downtown more accessible to everyone, regardless of their mobility needs, enhancing the overall urban experience for both residents and visitors.

“Whether you live, work, play, or learn here, DASH will help everyone who comes to Tampa’s downtown by giving them a new mobility option. A ride in a DASH Tesla will be low-cost, protected from the weather, and ideal for medium-length trips within downtown,” said Shaun Drinkard, interim president for the Tampa Downtown Partnership.

The recruitment process for DASH drivers will start on August 1, with the application process opening up to interested candidates. Potential drivers will have to undergo a comprehensive background check, ensuring that passengers can trust the service for safe and reliable rides. After the selection process, the chosen drivers will receive training in the following weeks. Additional details on hub locations, pricing, and operating hours are yet to be announced.
